Jailbroken iPod Touch or iPhone : What do you do next??

1. Update Installer Application |
Here at Oscot we have outlined what to do after jailbreaking your iPod Touch or even iPhone. The process out lined below is for either one. |

| These are the available and trusted sources for applications currently available. If you click on “REFRESH” at the top left of the screen it will start to check the server for updates to the already in place lists. |

Please note that this process may not work initially if you have been trying to install other applications prior to finding our tutorial. In order to assure a hassle free installation restart the iPod Touch / iPhone. If that is the case simply “slide to power off” your iPod Touch/ iPhone by holding the power button on top and then sliding the arrow to turn it completely off. Once completely off turn it back on by clicking the power button again. Once complete then open Installer and continue in clinking the “Refresh” button the “Sources” section.

| Once the installation has completed you will be prompted with the following screen informing you of the update completion. Click the “ok” button on the screen and wait for a quick restart of the device. |

2. Install BSD Subsystem |
Now you have an iPod Touch/iPhone that is ready to install just about anything you want to try and play with. First there are two essential programs to ensure minimal problems installing other programs, and one for theme control.

| Click on the “Install” icon along the bottom of the application. This will bring up a list of package folders for you to choose applications from. Scroll down to the System folder and click on it. This will bring up the following selection. |

Click on BSD Subsystem. The BSD Subsystem is a series of Unix tools for the iPod Touch / iPhone that allow third party applications to be installed with minimal problems. The system allows applications to interact with the system through the command lines and is required by such applications in order for them to operate correctly. | If you were trying to install it prior to updating the sources you would have noticed that the previous displaying version was 2.0 and the size was 6.6 MB. So now that we have the right package to install, let’s click install on the top right hand corner of the device’s screen. This will prompt the following. |

| You can add to the install queue or just choose to install it right from the start. We chose to “Install”. |

Upon completion you will be prompted with a warning box that advises you to not use the word passwrd to change your password. "This method of changing the device’s password has been known to cause problems with Springboard." What is Springboard? Hold on we are almost there. Simply click “ok” for now. |

3. Install Community Sources |
| The next application we are going to install is Community Sources. This updates the Sources list we refreshed before. Presently for version 3.7 it is adding iPod Touch Fans to the list. This will be another source of applications for your device. |

| Click Install again at the top right, and then “Install” again when prompted. |
 |

The last screen of the Community Sources install will be warning you that they are maintained by third parties, and for you to do your own due diligence to make sure they are form a trusted source. Otherwise to uninstall this package or remove the sources that should not be trusted. Simply click “OK” to proceed. |

4. Install SummerBoard |
The last application that should be installed, before starting mass third party application installation, is SummerBoard. SummerBoard is an updated version of SpringBoard. Both applications create an environment where you have complete control over the look of your iPod Touch / iPhone. The Summerboard native iPhone app that enables scrolling on the springboard for your iPhone, so now you have unlimited space for native apps. Navigate to the System section of the Packages. Scroll down to the S’s and slick on SummerBoard. |

| Clicking on “Install” at the top right and then “Install” once again on the pop-up window. |

| Upon completion you will notice a pop-up window instructing you to restart your device in order for the changes to take effect. Click “OK”. |

| Hold the Power button on top of the device to shut it off. Then “slide to power off”. |
 |

| Now you have a ready to roll iPod Touch / iPhone. Notice the new icon, SMBprefs. This is the icon that controls the SummerBoard Preferences. Here you can make changes to your theme. Stay tuned as we bring you more on this topic this week. |

I can't seem to find an installable BSD subsystem in the Installer listings, though the iPod seems to have lots of working UNIX going on. Is a separate installation no longer needed?
(Also, this and related posts on OSCOT have been amazingly useful and enlightening. My sincerest thanks to the writers!)

and i tryed to turn it off completly but it still didn't work
