This tutorial was done while setting up a HP Laptop with Microsoft Vista.  Thus the reason why it is listed in out Vista section here at Oscot.

You may have noticed the Norton Internet Security screen when first turning on the PC.  We will show you how we never setup Norton to avoid problems.  Norton is known for being the reason many PC’s and Mac’s have problems related to internet and security.  That’s right the program you pay to protect you is compromised more often than not.  This is complete personal preference, but since it’s our preference, we bypassed their setup shown here.

The following print screen is from Symantec’s Product, Norton Internet Security.  It explains that you have received this software as a part of the purchase.  What they neglect to mention is that you must pay for this software after 60 days.  For now, let’s just hit the red X at the top right of the window and close it.

They really are persistent in getting you to try and set this up, aren’t they?  After clicking the rex X, it will prompt you with a user message warning you that your computer “will not be protected until you complete the process.”  We have a different plan for PC security that’s completely free, less resource intensive, and simply works.  Click yes and let’s move on.
